Winter 2003
Terry Klett, a shareholder who has been with our firm since 1979, was one of the founding members of the Mill Creek Rotary Club. Terry has held various offices in the past and is currently serving as treasurer.
The Mill Creek Rotary Foundation has financially supported many organizations over the years. Wiggums Hollow Park, Operation First Harvest, YMCA Pathways for Women and Healing the Children are just a few examples. One organization that the Foundation strongly supported was Operation Walk. This organization provides lower leg prosthetics to victims of land mines in Thailand. With a 3-H (Health, Hunger & Humanity) $250,000 matching grant provided by Rotary International, they were able to establish a facility in a local hospital to produce the artificial limbs.
Supporting education is very important to the Mill Creek Rotary Club and to Terry. Last fall, many members tried out their carpentry skills by helping to build a home as a fundraising project. The Foundation purchased property and with the help of many people they were able to get enough material and labor donated to generate a profit on the sale of over $48,000. These funds were used for the Scholarship Endowment Fund. The Mill Creek Rotary Foundation awards annually a $2,000 scholarship to one outstanding student at both Archbishop Murphy High School and Jackson High School.
This year, the Foundation has chosen the Wheelchair Foundation as its project. There are up to 100 million people around the world who do not have access to wheelchairs and either have to be carried or crawl in order to get where they need to go. The cost of a wheelchair is $150, and The Wheelchair Foundation matches every $75.00 contribution.
The Foundation is planning an auction next April to help raise funds to enable it to donate to these worthy causes. If you are interested in attending the auction, or want more information regarding the Mill Creek Rotary Club or the Mill Creek Rotary Foundation, please feel free to give Terry a call at our office.
