Spring 2004
Providence General Foundation is the largest health care foundation in the area and also the largest fundraising organization for Providence Everett Medical Center. Fred Sjoholm, who is the “Sjoholm”of Hascal Sjoholm & Company P.S., has been involved in the organization for over twenty years.
Fred was a board member of the Providence Foundation before it merged with the General Foundation in 1994. Fred has served as both Chairman of the Finance Committee and Treasurer for the organization and has been in charge of investments in excess of $5 million dollars.
Fred served as Chairman of the Board from 2000 to 2002. During that time, the Foundation raised over $6.5 million dollars for the new Women & Children’s Pavilion. He was also involved in raising over $1 million dollars for the new Critical Care Facility. Through wise stewardship of donors’ gifts, the Foundation has been able to support new and improved technology to enhance medical excellence in heart care, pediatrics, cancer care, vascular and emergency medicine.
In addition to individual donor gifts, the Foundation has two significant fundraising events each year. The Festival of Trees is a weeklong event of viewing beautifully decorated trees (which are auctioned off at the Gala Event). Jazz Night and a Teddy Bear Breakfast add to the festivities. It is a heart-warming experience which is sure to get you into the holiday spirit.
The foundation also sponsors an Epicurean Affair at Anthony’s Homeport in Everett. It is a black-tie event which includes a five-course gourmet meal. All food, supplies and labor are donated by Anthony’s.
During the years of Fred’s involvement the Foundation has proven that even people without medical backgrounds can make a difference in the services and level of medical care available in the local community. The Providence General Foundation is only one of the many ways Fred has served the greater Everett community and we here at Hascal Sjoholm & Company are very proud of all he has done.
