Winter 2005
The Everett Exchange Club has been revitalized thanks to the efforts of a group of caring individuals, including one of our shareholders, Bill Reith.
The Everett Exchange Club was originally chartered in 1949. The Club was active in the community for close to 50 years. Unfortunately in the late 1990’s the group began to disband. In December 2003, Perry Barth, the Northwest District representative of the Exchange Club, approached Bill at a Good Morning Everett Chamber event. Perry saw a need for the club’s services in the Everett area and wanted Bill to help. Bill was inspired by the work the Exchange Club was doing on a national level: reinforcing American values, building leaders for today and tomorrow, and protecting America’s children from harm. Bill gladly took on the role of president and is currently focusing his efforts on trying to increase membership.
The Exchange Club believes that America’s young people are this country’s most precious resource. The Club sponsors many activities designed to benefit and develop our nation’s youth. They also work with different agencies in the prevention of child abuse.
Last spring they helped sponsor an awards recognition dinner for teens who live in foster homes that graduate from high school.
The Exchange Club also works to promote pride in our country, respect for the flag and other American symbols, appreciation of our freedoms, and the costs of those freedoms. This year the Everett Exchange Club participated in the “give a kid a flag to wave” event at the recent homecoming of one of the ships stationed at the Everett Naval Base. The group handed out over 400 American flags. They also recently honored veterans at the Cascadian Assisted Living Facility in downtown Everett.
